I chose to feature this example of the animation of a logo because I thought the transformation of style from start to finish was very effective. The method used to simplify the design at the end of the clip was very clean and sleek and allowed the type to become readable which is the key function of a TV Ident.
I feel one of the most important skills to have in After Effects is the ability to use masks effectively. This allows colours and images to feature behind or in front of a piece of logotype and be “clipping masked” within that shape. This is a good example of showing how colours can be swooshed behind a shape to add visual interest to the logo and build it up to display the final logo in corporate colours.
This video featured a designers adaption of some of the major TV broadcasters TV Idents. Each of the clips last between 3 and 5 seconds. I feel the struggle for creating a TV Ident for 3 seconds is trying to feature a stylish and effective animation yet still allowing time for the viewer to understand and read the logotype; Bodoni.
This TV Ident shows an example of representing a mood through the motion of typography. The distorted black illustration followed by the growing vignette ending, added a grungy feel to the logo and therefore portrays a specific theme to the audience. In my first attempt at animating Bodoni, I tried to highlight the essence of the hand drawn qualities of Bodoni but maybe my next stage cold be to incorporate a mood into it; a traditional, sketchy feel with a sense of development and time.
This style of TV Ident // Animation is my favourite as it simply uses transformation tools in Adobe Effects, such as Position, Rotation, Scale and Masking. Although I find this one of the most effective style of animation I feel it isn’t suitable for the theme Bodoni needs to represent it’s time specific era.
Another key example of using masks to add visual interest to simple logotype solutions. I think this style is great for longer, descriptive animation clips.
